Orange and milk together? That is a very rare and almost an unusual combo. Citruses tend to curdle milk easily in no seconds and you'll be definitely wondering about how this combo will work. Trust me when the milk is cold, really cold, it definitely works. Yes chilled milk and orange makes a very good combo and indeed this orange milkshake is another drink I make pretty often and I love it. But be careful not to use room temperature milk or milk that has been chilled only for a while, when I mean chilled milk it means completely chilled, you can even freeze it for a while and use it. This is not a drink that can be stored and served later, as time passes it will get curdled up. Adding vanilla ice-cream to this milkshake definitely adds creaminess and richness and also prevents curdling. I have also tried without ice-cream, and it still tastes good and stays well for a while. There is a similar drink prepared with orange and milk, the Orange Julius, which I wasn't aware of until I recently googled about orange-milk combo. I was totally surprised, as I was strongly believing that there was no recipe with the orange and milk combo, lol I was wrong indeed ;) Anyway try making this orange milkshake and enjoy a citrus-y milkshake. If you are a citrus lover you definitely must not miss this.
INGREDIENTS
Serves 1 person generouslyTotal Preparation Time - 5 minutes
- Orange - 1
- Milk - 250 ml (boiled & chilled)
- Vanilla ice-cream - 1 small scoop (optional)
- Sugar - 2 spoons
PREPARATION METHOD
- Peel orange and separate the carpels.
- Put this into a blender along with milk, sugar, vanilla ice-cream (optional) and blend well.
- Strain and serve immediately!!
TIP 1: Serve immediately do not store as it will curdle up if left for a while. You can use vanilla ice-cream if you wish, but even without the ice-cream it will still be creamy and tasty.
TIP 2: I have tried using artificial sweeteners too and I have skipped the addition of vanilla ice-cream and it till tastes so yum!!

ReplyDeleteThis is really similar to a traditional and very popular Dominican beverage called morir sonando (literally translates to "die dreaming") that is made with orange juice and milk. It is delicious; definitely one of my favorite and most refreshing drinks.
ReplyDeleteCheck the recipe here: http://www.dominicancooking.com/976-morir-sonando-milk-and-orange-juice.html
Hi, Just checked the drink, wow looks very similar and awesome!! yeah its my most favorite drink, never knew that there already existed a drink like this :) Thanks for letting me know!!
Deleteyummy cool drink..
ReplyDeleteWonderful and looks yummy, but still does it show any laxative effect??
ReplyDeleteHi Arthy, yes it is indeed yummy.. But it did no cause any laxative effect..!!
DeleteFruits create a sour and indigestible “wine” in the stomach when mixed with other food. Milk and orange combination is not recommended by Ayurveda. I never make milkshakes, except banana milkshake. Did you get any laxative effect?
ReplyDeleteHi Dipti, Laxative effect? No.. never!! I haven't even got any stomach trouble after consuming this!! and this is not my first time, I have been making this for a long time, I have not experienced any trouble.. I do not understand your concept of not making milkshakes even with other fruits!!! I do not know about ayurveda, but I feel good even after gulping loads of this drink..!! When you are not comfortable it is better not to try..!!
DeleteI think I'll try this tomorrow. Looks so good! I love orange and dairy together.
ReplyDeletewhat a healthy & refreshing drink will try it today.perfect for this hot day
