Mango Nungu Milk / Mambalam Nungu Paal / Mango Ice-apple Milk

Palm fruit, also known as Nungu or Ice-apple, is lovely jelly like fruit available during hot summers in India. It has a mild sweet taste and jelly like texture. Nungu has many many health benefits and is rich in Vitamin A, B and C, Iron Zinc, Phosphorous, Potassium and lots more. It helps to cool the body and helps to reduce exceeding white discharge in women. Its the best coolant for summer and beat the heat with this recipe. The recipe is very easy and quick to make and is very delicious. The mango flavor along with the bits of nungu makes the recipe delicious and rich. You can also make this recipe without mangoes and it will also taste good. I have discussed both preparations here.

INGREDIENTS

  1. Palm fruit/Ice-apple/Nungu - 3
  2. Ripe Mangoes -  1/2 of a mango (nearly 3 big pieces)
  3. Boiled Milk - 2 cups
  4. Sugar - 4 spoons
  5. Condensed milk - 3 spoons (optional)

PREPARATION METHOD

Mango Nungu Milk

  • Remove the outer layer or skin from the Nungu and chop into small pieces.

  • In a blender add mango pieces, milk, condensed milk and sugar and blend well.
  • Add the chopped Nungu cubes to it.
  • Serve chilled. (Refrigerate before serving).

Plain Nungu Milk :

  • Remove the outer layer or skin from the Nungu and chop into small pieces.
  • In a sauce pan boil milk well and let it cool.
  • Add sugar and condensed milk to the milk stir well.
  • Add chopped nungu cubes.
  • Serve chilled.

TIP 1: If you wish you can also add saffron to the plain nungu milk preparation.

TIP 2: Instead of adding mangoes you can also use pineapple or papaya.

TIP 3: For a rich treat top up the preparation with a scoop of Vanilla ice-cream (for plain nungu milk) or mango ice-cream (for Mango nungu milk) or jelly.

TIP 4: You can also serve the plain nungu milk hot.

TIP 5: Add a spoon of rose milk powder to plain nungu milk to enhance flavor.

TIP 6: If you don't want the big nungu chunks then blend them along with mangoes and milk.

Refreshing and cooling Mango Nungu Milk and Plain Nungu Milk is now ready. Enjoy on a hot summer day!!
