Watermelon Juice

Watermelon is such a refreshing fruit perfect for summer, yet am addicted to its taste anytime, be it summer or winter. The availability of these fruits decreases as soon as summer gets over. Though summer is over in India we can still feel sun's scorching heat specially in South India. So I was looking out for some kinda thirst quencher, to get me hydrated. And so I headed towards the market to get me a tender coconut or any citrus fruits to make some refreshing drinks. As I was going to the grocery store I found cute small watermelons on the way near the market side and was so surprised and excited because of its size and also because I found them even after summer. So I purchased them immediately without a second thought of how they would taste. Each fruit weighed just around a kilogram and was bit bigger than my palm. They looked so adorable and I just fell in love with them at first sight. As soon as I reached home I immediately cut open a fruit and tasted a small piece of it, and wow! it was just heavenly, it was so sweet , fleshy and too good, they were even better than the bigger watermelons. So decided to make a fresh and quick drink with it and that's what am going to share with you today. Watermelon juice can be made in a jiffy and is so easy-peasy. Since my fruit was too sweet there was no necessity for me to add sugar or artificial sweeteners, but some fruits may taste bland in such cases add some sugar to compensate the sweetness. Now lets see how to prepare this refreshing drink.

Check out my other thirst quenchers and drinks here!!

INGREDIENTS

Makes 2 glasses
Total Preparation Time - 3 minutes
  1. Water Melon - 1 small fruit (Mine weighed 1.102 kg)
  2. Lemon juice - 2 spoons (Optional)
  3. Mint leaves - For garnishing

PREPARATION METHOD

  • Cut water melon into four pieces. Chop and take the red fleshy pieces using a knife and set aside. (Do not discard the white portion of the watermelon. You can make stir-fry, poriyal and curry with it, just remove the hard outer skin and use the whiter portion alone for preparations. I will discuss some in the upcoming posts.)
  • Add these water melon pieces and lemon juice to a blender and blend well for a minute.
  • Strain with a strainer having bigger pores. This is just to remove the seeds. If you don't want it too pulpy, but want only the watery juice then strain with a strainer with smaller pores.
  • Serve!!

TIP 1: Instead of adding ice cubes chill the water melon and then use it. It will taste better.

TIP 2: I have used the pulp too but if you wish you can strain it away and use the juice alone.

TIP 3: If you love mint flavor you can add few leaves while blending to make it more refreshing.

A refreshing and simple water melon drink is now ready!! Enjoy on a hot sweaty day!!
