Mint Chutney For Chaat / Green Chutney / Pudhina Chutney

Mint chutney is a very flavorful dip or spread of India which is used to prepare chaats and also to accompany any snack. The refreshing mint leaves gives an excellent aroma and flavor to the chutney and makes any chaat or snack delightful. Moreover its so easy to make and can be made in just a few minutes and needs very few handy ingredients. Tamarind date chutney (click here for recipe) and mint chutney are the two flavorful chutneys and main ingredients that spices up the chaat and snack items of the street side chaat stalls. Try it at home and store in refrigerators for future use. Use this chutney for preparing chaats like bhel poori, dahi poori, or as spreads or as base in sandwiches, dips for samosas and cutlets and enjoy.

INGREDIENTS

Makes nearly 225 grams of chutney
Total Preparation Time - 5 to 10 minutes
  1. Mint leaves - 50 grams (1 small cup)
  2. Coriander leaves - 25 grams (1/2 of the small cup)
  3. Big onion - 1 (100 grams)
  4. Green chillies - 1
  5. Lemon - 1
  6. Sugar - 1 spoon
  7. Salt - 1 spoon
  8. Water - 50 ml

PREPARATION METHOD

  • Squeeze juice from lemon and discard the seeds. Chop onions and green chillies.
  • Add all the ingredients and lemon juice into a blender and blend for a minute; then add water and blend well until it turns into a smooth paste.
  • Serve!!

TIP 1: Chop off the roots from both the mint and coriander stems and wash them well in running water. Pluck the leaves and weigh them. Never wash leaves after plucking form the stem to avoid possible loss of nutrients.

TIP 2: Do not add too much water while making the chutney.

TIP 3: If you do not want mint to dominate the chutney you can add equal amounts of mint and coriander leaves.
