Chapati Pizza | Stove Top Pizza Without Yeast | Vegetable Pizza Without Oven | Easy Pizza | Pizza With Chapati As Base | Indian Pizza

Yeah!! You read it right, its chapati Pizza a complete fusion recipe. I am not a pizza person but I do like to occasionally enjoy a few slices and I also loveeeee Indianizing recipes. Here comes an easy peasy fusion pizza recipe where I've used chapati (An Indian flat bread) as the base and some easy to fetch ingredients for the topping. The best part is you don't need an oven; just a stovetop and a tawa will do!! The only fancy ingredient that I've used here is the Italian seasoning which you can look out for, in supermarkets or spice stores or get it online. If you cannot find a way to get the seasonings, you can still make spicy and delicious pizzas using Indian spices. But the magic to making homemade pizzas flavorful is using Italian herbs and seasonings, pizzas without them it doesn't mean Pizza to me. But when there isn't an option there is nothing wrong in switching spices. The seasoning I used had a mix of dried tomato flakes, chilli flakes, oregano, thyme and basil; there are different combinations available but these are good enough to make a pizza delightful. Usually pizzas have a bread base which needs yeast but here you don't yeast and you don't have to spend hours for a single pizza. This one is quick, easy and has a thin base and a mildly crusty texture.

I read somewhere that Pizza was introduced in India during 1996 by Pizza hut who set up their first cafe in Bangalore!! Later came the Dominos after some 8 years and both have been fierce competitors in India. It has only been 8 years since Pizza was added into Indian food culture, but the growth and reach has been monstrous. This most favorite Italian food of the Indians has created a monopoly unlike other fast food and who wouldnt love a homemade simpler version that is a breeze to prepare? This chapati pizza is effortless, less in calorific value as I've used wheat flour and little cheese. Also I've used just onions and tomatoes for the topping but there was nothing much to lose taste-wise!! Customise this recipe as your wish, use meat or your choice of veggies, turn it into a cheese laden pizza or keep it under control, use wheat or maida and enjoy your customised chapati pizza. So how many pizza lovers out there? get your aprons ready and try your hands at this simple homemade treat. Don't forget to let me know your feedback and suggestions.

  5. Coriander leaves / Parsley - Few
  6. Cheese - 25 grams for each pizza or as needed (grated)
  7. Italian seasonings - 2 teaspoons
  8. Salt - As needed

PREPARATION METHOD

Prepare Chapati Dough And Make Chapatis
  • The dough should be really good to get your pizza a tasty base. So make sure you do not make flaws in the dough making part.
  • Take a bowl add flour salt and mix well.
  • Pour oil and milk and rub well with your fingers. Now pour warm water little by little and knead until you get a single mass.
  • Apply some oil to your palms and knead really well until the dough is elastic and pliable.
  • Once done set is aside covered for 10 to 20 minutes depending on the time availability.
  • Meanwhile prepare the pizza topping.
  • After the aforementioned time take the dough and knead again for a few minutes.
  • Now separate the dough into 2 or 3 portions and smoothen them by rolling between palms.
  • Dust your work surface or pastry board with flour and using a rolling pin flatten the balls into chapatis that is bit thick (do not make it too thin as it will become very crusty)
  • Set the flattened chapatis aside covered until use. Do not let it open in the air as it may become dry.

Prepare Pizza Topping
  • Place a pan on flame, pour oil and saute chopped onions and saute until it is half cooked. Now add chopped tomatoes and saute for a fe minutes, see that the tomatoes do not become mushy. Now add Italian seasonings and then add salt, saute for a minute and remove from flame. (Always add seasonings first and then check for salt and add if needed, as seasonings have salt in them)
  •  Set this aside.

Pizza Preparation
  • Place a pan/tawa on flame and place the flattened chapati over it. Cook on a medium flame on one side until it has white spots on it, then flip the chapati and switch to lower mode.
  • Now spread some ketchup nicely over the side with white spots, then spoon some of the prepared onion tomato mix over the ketchup.
  • Then spread grated cheese and cover the tawa with a lid.
  • Cook for a minute or two until the cheese melts. (Use mozzarella cheese if possible to get that cheesy kinda pizza, but still any cheese would do)
  • Then remove from flame sprinkle few pinches of the seasonings and cut into pieces using a knife or kitchen scissors and serve.

TIP 1: In the final step see that the chapati does not get burnt so cook on a lower flame mode. Also make sure that the chapati isn't too thin, as it might turn very crusty or too tough on over-cooking, but if you like such texture you can make thin chapatis.

TIP 2: You can customise the toppings accordingly and reduce or increase the amount of cheese. Cheese differs in texture and mozzarella is commonly used for pizza. If you do not find mozzarella you can go for the normal cheese like amul.

TIP 3: If using meat cook it separately and then add it to the onion tomato mixture. See that the tomatoes do not turn mushy while cooking, also the onions should be crisp but cooked.

TIP 4: Instead of wheat flour you can go for maida also or wheat:maida in the ratio 1:1. You can use leftover chapatis too.

Voila...!!! a simple yet delicious, easy to prepare chapati pizza is now ready with minimum efforts and ingredients!! Cook and enjoy your weekends with your family with this easy homemade pizza!!
