Here's a mildly spiced pulao recipe with turmeric as the main flavoring ingredient. The color and flavors are very subtle and makes it such a comforting dish to all age groups. It can be simply served with papads or along with any spicy curries. It makes a great lunch box recipe too. When you are in a hurry this recipe will be your savior.
INGREDIENTS
Serves one personTotal Preparation Time - 20 minutes
- Basmati rice - 1/2 cup
- Turmeric power - 1/4 teaspoon
- Ginger - one small 1/4 inch piece
- Cumin seeds - 1/4 teaspoon
- Peppercorns - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - As per taste
- Ghee - 1.5 tablespoons
PREPARATION METHOD
- Wash rice twice in water and soak in fresh water for about 10 to 15 minutes.
- Place a pan on flame and pour ghee into the pan. After it heats up add cumin seeds, pepper corn, crushed ginger piece, turmeric powder, salt and saute for a few seconds. Do not let the spices burn.
- Add basmati rice and gently stir.
- Then pour 1.5 cups of water and mix gently.
- Cover with a lid and cook on a low flame for 5 to 7 minutes or until the rice gets cooked and water content completely reduces. Then remove from flame and garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
- Serve hot with some spicy curries or simply with papads.
TIP 1 : Instead of peppercorns you can use 1/4 tsp of chopped green chillies also. It will give a different flavor.
